What We Do

We can all change our habits. Here is how Oliver and his mum started.

Oliver: Mum, this bread is not fresh anymore, I do not like it.

Mum: Sorry Oliver, that is all I have got now. I will have to buy more on my way home.

Oliver: Well, the expiration date is today anyway.

Mum: Yes! This means that it is still safe to eat. Perhaps, we can toast it.

Oliver: Oh! Yes, please. I love toast. We can also use some for croutons for our salad tonight.

Mum: Wow! Brilliant. I may use up the rest for bread pudding instead of throwing it.

Oliver: Humm! I can help with that since I do not have school tomorrow. Can we add some fruits from the fridge to make it yummier?

Mum: Sure! I think your grandparents will enjoy your dessert for lunch tomorrow. I was wondering what dessert to get, meanwhile we already have everything here. I am so proud of you!

Oliver: Thanks mum, I learned this in school.

Both: Problem, sorted!

Do not throw your bread anymore! Here are a few ideas of what you can use it for.

Fruit salad

Instructions:

  1. Wash all the fruits you want to use for your salad. Choose your favorite fruits such as apples, bananas, strawberries, kiwi, grapes, oranges, or any other fruits you like.

  2. Cut the fruits into small pieces and place them in a large bowl. You can cut them into cubes, slices or any other preferred shape.

  3. Pour your preferred fruit juice over the fruit. You can use any fruit juice of your choice, such as orange juice, pineapple juice, or apple juice. You can also use a mixture of different juices to create your own unique flavor.

  4. Mix all the fruits and the juice together in the bowl. Gently stir the mixture to ensure all the fruits are coated with the juice.

  5. Cover the fruit salad and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. This will help the flavors to meld together, and the fruit salad will become more delicious over time.

  6. When you are ready to enjoy your fruit salad, take it out of the fridge and give it a quick stir. You can serve it as it is or add some yogurt, nuts, or honey for an extra twist.

Ingredients:

There is no specific list of fruits you must use for your fruit salad. Please, be creative in personalising it your way with your available fruits to avoid throwing them in the bin.

To help further in reducing food waste and get extra nutrients for a healthy lifestyle, try to only consume seasonal fruits and vegetables.
